Butterfly

In my last post, I shared a tile I created for Hope. The butterfly in that image went through several versions.

I love the Art Deco style and so for my initial inspiration I looked for some Art Deco butterflies. The one I focused on was this:

 

Referring to the image and thinking about butterflies in general I created this version:

But I wasn't happy with it for several reasons. The outline of the lower wings didn't look quite right and it was just too soft and friendly to fit with the final tile. (In that tile I'd created a background of storm and ruins and the butterfly needed to look like it was both referencing that situation, but was also separate from it.)

So I decided to create a slightly sharper, more detailed butterfly. This was the result:
